"With our mission of leading Britain’s recovery by fighting Coronavirus, backing business, unleashing innovation and tackling climate change there has never been a more exciting time to join BEIS."

A personal message from Sarah Munby, Permanent Secretary

This is an exciting time to join the senior leadership team at the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), and I want to add a personal note about our intent to build an open, collaborative and inclusive working environment. Establishing a truly diverse senior leadership team is a key priority and to accelerate our goal, we are creating this talent initiative to support future senior talent from under represented communities.

With our mission of leading Britain’s recovery by fighting Coronavirus, backing business, unleashing innovation and tackling climate change there has never been a more exciting time to join BEIS. We are responsible for building an economy that works for everyone so that there are great places in every part of the UK for people to work and for businesses to invest, innovate and grow. The Department’s ability to be flexible, innovative, collaborative and support business is essential to delivering on our priorities.

We are playing a crucial role in supporting the Government’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic, both in supporting its business and science agendas, as well having a leading role in tackling climate change and driving decarbonisation, including through the UK’s hosting of the COP26 event and net zero work.

To achieve this vital agenda, I am looking for people who are energised by the thought of gripping the complex challenges facing business and working across the economy and Government to build relationships of trust, so that we can work well together.

I particularly welcome applications that are representative of the broad range of views and backgrounds we have in our society.

In return, BEIS can offer you the challenge and stretch you need to develop your career and reach your full potential.

Best wishes,

Sarah Munby, Permanent Secretary

Talent Pool

As a Department built on innovation, we are looking at new ways to proactively develop our next generation of leaders. Through the creation of a Talent Pool we are seeking individuals to join the civil service and at Deputy Director level. You will work at the heart of the Department to design, develop and deliver policy and programmes to meet our ministerial priorities for this new decade. The policies you work on and the projects and programmes you will lead will have a direct impact on the security, safety and prosperity of the UK.

Applying to be part of this Talent Pool initiative will provide you with tools and learning to help you prepare for the most senior roles in BEIS and give you practical advice around the transition into government. Participation will also ensure you are more visible for potential roles so that you can be pro-actively alerted to potential opportunities as these arise.

We believe diversity and inclusion are the right thing to do, and that they make us a more innovative, welcoming Department which is a better employer, that makes better decisions. We therefore particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and other underrepresented backgrounds and from disabled people. We will quickly upskill you in the areas where you have less experience so prior knowledge of for example, energy policy is not required.
